1985 Porsche 944

My First Porsche

I think I made every mistake possible buying my first Porsche. No real market survey to see what was out there. No pre-purchase inspection by a dealer or independant specialist. Thanks to surprises I put over twice what I paid into the car in parts and labor just to get the mechanicals and suspension into good working order. And on the whole, while I miss the money, I'm still glad I did it.

The good part of buying this lemon was that I got hooked up with a mechanic I really like and feel comfortable with. Bill Pfister at Eurotech Advanced Automotive in Framingham, Massachusetts did all the mechanical and suspension work on this car. Eurotech is a sponsor of the PCA Northeast Region, and Bill has actually built and raced a car in the the Daytona/Rolex 24hr Endurance Race, so if you're looking for a regular mechanic or a performance expert, I'd recommend him. I've got one or two images (~35k each) of this car that I snapped while I was hanging around Bill's shop.

Some shots of the car warming up in a parking lot.

Game Over

Well, thanks to a drunk driver this little 944 is no more (See wrecks for details) as of mid-February, 1998. After all the time and money, the preliminary estimate just to correct the frame and body damage was up around $7,000. So off went my first Porsche to be divvied up for parts...

After the shock wore off I started wrangling with my insurance company, and in the end not only did I lose my car, but also all the money I poured into it in my effort to restore it to roadworthy condition. Sort of like adding insult to injury.
