Well let's see, what's my excuse now for not having finished the commentary for those May Driver's Ed events? Just been busy. In the meantime I hit four glorious days at Watkin's Glen - the PCA Zone 1 event back-to-back with a Connecticutt Valley Region event. I think this one's going to be a regular stop for me. I love that track!
And I even took a few decent pictures to put up. Then there's this guy who's made a business out of a hobby and takes photos of folks at the track. I gave him $25 to try and get a few shots of me at speed, but so far I haven't heard anything.
I've had the VW out a bit, but it's had an intermittent glitch in the ignition. I should say had -- durn thing won't turn over with the key anymore, I've got to hot-wire it. Good thing to know how to do, I suppose, but not much fun.
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone two weeks ago was great fun. A fast, exciting race with an unexpected ending. Michael Schumacher's unfortunate accident made that certain, but when Mika Hakkinen's (front left?) wheel went flying off on it's own the whole thing became a tossed salad surprise.
It was nice to see David Coulthard win the race, but in a way it was better to see Damon Hill show well and decide to finish the season. As I approach my 31st birthday, I like to see someone at the end of their thirties still competitive in this business. I realize that I would have had to start a driving career at least ten years ago (uhm, fifteen Steve) -- and have immense talent -- to ever dream of a shot at an F1 ride, but I can daydream about it. So, kudos to Damon Hill and keep on truckin'.
As I sit here, I am watching the Austrian Grand Prix -- again. I didn't really expect a more entertaining race this week, but that's exactly what I'm getting here. Fantastic sport and a race you absolutely cannot take your eyes off of or you'll miss some amazing development. Doesn't even matter that I know how it ends; I'm even taping it. Wonderful stuff, and exactly why road racing is such excellent sport.
